Surviving Social Distancing

Here are some self care tips to consider as we cope with the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • Acknowledge that it is understandable to feel anxious during this time as most aspects of our lives are affected.
  • Be mindful of how much news and media you are consuming- try tuning into the news once or twice a day.  Avoid your exposure to the news/media prior to sleep.
  • While there are many circumstances that are beyond our control, try focusing on calming exercises such as the 4 count breath (see previous blog entry), diaphragmatic breathing, exercise, getting fresh air and connecting virtually with friends and family.
  • Set attainable goals for your new living situation
  • It’s important to be kind to yourself. This is an anxious and stressful time for everyone, and it’s okay if you feel more anxious than usual, and it’s okay to take time for yourself to manage your mental health. You are doing the best you can in a time when simply turning on the news can feel overwhelming.
